The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a timely reminder to students, especially those in Senior High Schools, to use social media responsibly and avoid behaviours that could harm their reputations and future opportunities.
Speaking at a student forum in the Central Region on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliet Duffie Otameh, expressed growing concern over the trend of inappropriate online behaviour among young people. She noted that the digital footprints students create today could have lasting effects on their academic and professional lives.
“Before you post anything about yourself, ask whether you will be proud of it tomorrow,” — Dr. Juliet Duffie Otameh, Regional Director of Education
Dr. Otameh referenced recent viral videos involving students, warning that such content can resurface later in life and potentially affect future job prospects or educational opportunities. She encouraged young people to pause and reflect before posting, asking themselves whether their parents or teachers would be proud of what they share online.

While cautioning against misuse, Dr. Otameh also highlighted the positive side of social media — as a tool for learning, networking, and personal growth when used purposefully.
